10/24/20- Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Michigan State Spartans Preview

In 2001, a friend of mine acquired a bunch of free tickets to see the Buffalo Bulls host Rutgers. It was one of the first home games the Bulls had against a power 5 school, and they marked the occasion by having The Village People perform at halftime. Rutgers won the game by 2 touchdowns. Anyway, we sat right by the tunnel, and the Rutgers players were woofing at the crowd after. I looked at one of their players, shook my head and said “Enjoy it, you won’t win another one all season.” My prediction proved correct. In the next 20 years, save for a few shining moments, very little has changed. Or have they? Rutgers visits East Lansing today to take on the Spartans. The Scarlet Knights remain a hot mess. They plan on starting Noah Vedral at quarterback today. He is a two time transfer that put up underwhelming stats for Nebraska last season, throwing no touchdowns in 6 appearances. However, he can make plays happen with his feet. Adding Aron Cruickshank from Wisconsin should improve the passing game. Michigan State limps into this season with a new coach and quarterback. Running back Elijah Collins returns, who fell just 12 yards shy of hitting the millennium mark last season. However, Kid Bro’s offensive line has not been good, and looks to be worse with Jordan Reid opting out of the season. I don’t see them beating anyone by double digits. Whether we like it or not, everything changes. Or maybe I just find toxic trash attractive.
The Pick: Rutgers +11.5
