12/16/20 NCAA Basketball- Samford Bulldogs at Troy Trojans

Despite the large slate of games today, I am remaining focused on Southern mid majors. Todays spotlighted tilt features the Samford Bulldogs making the cross-state trip to Trojan Arena, where the Troy Trojans await them. Both teams come in at .500, but have taken very different paths to get there. New Samford coach Bucky McMillan has brought his run and gun offense with him from Mountain Brook High School, where he won 5 state championships. Every game Samford has played has had more than 148 points scored. They demolished perennial power Belmont, and gave Georgia a real scare on the road. Conversely, no Troy game has had more than 148 points scored. Can Troy’s solid defense slow down “Bucky Ball”? I find this to be unlikely. Troy has beat up on low quality opponents like Central Baptist and Carver, probably because they couldn’t get the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind on the schedule. They lost by 34 to Texas Tech, the only good team they have faced. This game opened at -1, now its up to -2. The public knows what they are doing on this one.
The Pick: Samford -2
